College Ministry

College age young adults who are seeking Christ and His will for their lives.

The college ministry at Fifth Avenue Baptist Church is a vital ministry focusing on Christ's love and nuturing students through the growing pains of "after high school and before careers."  The college class named themselves the "Nephesh Class" in 2004 after one of Dr. Reasons sermon's entitled "Restoration in Progress," June 20, 2004. Quoting from Dr. Reasons' sermon in he which he explained that, "Nephesh is the Hebrew word that in Scripture means a variety of things; soul, self, life, appetite, mind, living being, desire, emotion, and passion."  Nephesh is our living soul which is the essence of our being and is what college age students are aching to find in themselves.  We encourage and invite ANY college age student to any of the following studies or activities that the college students plan.Praying

The Nephesh class meets on Sunday morning during the Sunday School hour from 9:45 until 10:30 in room 309.  Directions to the room are as follows; come into the church at the 12th Street doors and go to the elevator.  Take the elevator to the 3rd floor and turn right off the elevator then another right down the hall to the corner room.    Through the winter the college class is studying the New Testament book of James and then we will move into the book of Acts.

The class also meets on Tuesday nights at the home of Cyndy Hardwick who is the Minister of College and Missions.  The focus of Tuesday evening small group studies this fall and winter is to discuss a book called "Blue Like Jazz" by Donald Miller.

These bible studies begin at 8:00 pm each Tuesday evening. The address for this small group study is available from Cyndy Hardwick at cyndyh@fifthavenuebaptist.org

The Nephesh class alsoThe boys sponsors a Christmas Mission Trip to Nicaragua where many of our college students  head over to a community called Veracruz outside of Managua, Nicaragua.  While they are there, they minister to children in a boy's orphanage called Remar and build homes in the neighborhood surrounding the orphanage.

Any activity that the College/Career Ministry will be leaving the area requires a medical form. This medical form will be usable for the 2008 calendar year.
