Downtown Habitat House Build Is Going Extremely Well!

We are already heading into week four of the building phase of our Downtown Churches Habitat Build.  Our next scheduled day to work at the Habitat House is Tuesday, July 8th, and Fifth Avenue is scheduled to be the laborers on this day.  Please call Cyndy Hardwick or Hubert Harvey if you can be there for this day’s work.  We need to finish the front porch and finish shingling the roof. The building phase has gone incredibly smooth.
Please note that you can work any day Tuesday through Saturday, 9:30 until 4:30.  The address is 1948 Artisan Avenue.  You must sign in when you work, but other than that just bring your work gloves and have fun.

Power Lab 2008-The Miraculous Power of Jesus Seen Through Amazing Volunteers!

How can we say “thank you” to all the amazing people who helped with VBS? Because of your help, over 100 children heard the story of Christ! Thank you for making an eternal difference in the lives of these children. Christy, we do not know how to thank you enough for your organizational skills and your leadership. For all of this, we give the glory to God and thanksgiving to the One who came to save us all! Thank you!

The Search Continues...

Fifth Avenue Baptist’s search for a hymn based on the Parable of the Prodigal Son continues!  As you learn more about this parable, you are encouraged to write a poem based upon some aspect of the story.  Then, find a tune to accompany your poem.  It’s that easy to enter the contest!  For more information and some hymn writing hints, contact Donna Dingus, donnad@fifthavenuebaptist.org.

ALM's Focus for July-Jeffrey George Comfort House Hospitality House

This house provides temporary housing for relatives and supporting friends of seriously ill adult patients and qualified adult outpatients receiving treatment at area hospitals.  Volunteers assist with daily operations of checking in and orienting guests, record keeping, computer data input,  and helping with fundraising events.
This house has been an asset to so many people from outside  the community in their time of need.  The house is always in need of volunteers, and the following is a list of the present physical needs:
Velveeta Cheese — Soup
Canned Goods —  Hamburger Helper
Tissues — Cleaning Supplies — Manicure Items

Prayer is always appreciated for the ministry of this house, along with their staff and clients.

Along the Journey...Redeeming the Time

Do you remember the days before you could microwave and enjoy a meal on the table in just a few minutes?

What about the time before drive-through restaurants, when no one would think it possible to roll down your car window, speak into a box, order a meal, and pick it up within seconds, never leaving your car?

Do you remember when you had to “catch people at home” to talk to them on the telephone, never imagining that one day people would walk around with phones in their pockets?

How about the pre-computer era when you could not “Google” and find 17,000,000 references to your search in 0.18 seconds?

One would think that all of these “time-savers” would free our schedules.

I found the following words challenging:  “There’s nothing wrong with microwaves or mobile phones – they save time.  But God will ask you what you have done with the time that was saved” (Ruwais el-Anthony, [Reuters], as quoted in The Christian Century, July 1, 2008, Vol. 125, No. 13, p. 9).

I’ve kept the article short this week…so that you have more time…

Blessings,
Allen Reasons
